Back From Taxco

I was intrigued enough by the quality and design of silver jewelry from Taxco to go down and investigate.  It wasn’t the silver itself that convinced me to start this business, although that was certainly in the Top 5 List.  It was the people I met and the community I observed that I fell in love with.  I sat at breakfast each morning watching mothers walk their children to school, and laughed at the constant display of their creative, “can do” spirit.  I love with the constant festivals that parade through town honoring their faith, their community, and their families.  This city is truly a provincial delight.  Perhaps the best way to begin this blog is to “take you along” on a trip!

We always fly into Mexico City.  Martin (our driver) meets us just as we clear the Customs area in the airport, and the Taxco hospitality begins.  Martin takes our luggage, recommends the best exchange rates, loads our bags into his giant yellow van, and drives us the 2 hour trip to Taxco.  Each visit begins and ends with a nice long visit with this wonderful friend whom we have come to know and love.

The drive leads us over a mountain ridge, through dense forests, past fields of sugar cane and long stemmed roses and tiny villages of not much more than 10 houses and a church.  Finally, we take the last turn off the freeway, and anxiously look around each turn for our first sight of Taxco.  Every time we see the familiar city on the mountainside it feels like we are coming home.
