About Us

Shelly and I

I was looking for a new challenge when a friend mentioned the possibility of selling silver from the artisan community of Taxco, Mexico. It seemed rather improbable: I don’t wear a lot of jewelry nor have I ever had any sales experience, unless you count selling fundraiser candy in 4th grade, which I was pretty bad at. The friend sent me an assortment of jewelry, and I was intrigued by the beautiful pieces it contained.

Another friend knew more about the vintage jewelry, and she and I decided to fly down and check out the opportunities.

To be honest, it is a daunting task to make your way around Taxco the first time. Carol and I were totally overwhelmed, frequently lost, and had 25 Spanish words between us which we strung in every conceivable combination to muddle (and laugh) our way through the city.

The pieces I brought back sold immediately, and within a couple of months I went back for more. My husband and I are gearheads (aka auto enthusiasts) so I began setting my jewelry up at the Classic Car Auctions across the country. We started adding Jewelry and Wholesale shows to the calendar, and then set up a kiosk at our local mall. It wasn’t long before my hobby turned into a full time job.

Thank heavens for the friends who stepped in to think through each day!

Karen is the organizer and Shelly is the shopper. We work very hard and travel quite a bit, too! But we also enjoy sitting down at the end of a long day with a Gin and Tonic and challenging each other to a game of Speed Scrabble!   (In English!)
